I-9 Verification Frequently Asked Questions

What is an I-9 authorized representative?

An employer may designate another person to act on its behalf when completing Form I-9. The authorized representative physically examines the employee's documents and completes the required portion of the verification process on behalf of the employer.

Do I need a notary for Form I-9?

No. Form I-9 verification is not a notarization. A notary public may serve as an employer's authorized representative, but the person is acting as an authorized representative rather than performing a notarial act.

What documents do I need for my I-9 appointment?

You must present original, acceptable documents that establish your identity and employment authorization. Employees may choose which acceptable documents to present from the lists provided with Form I-9. Call To Sign cannot choose the documents for you.

Can you tell me which I-9 documents I should bring?

We can explain that you need acceptable documentation, but we cannot tell you which specific documents to choose. Your employer should provide the current Form I-9 instructions and list of acceptable documents.

Do you complete Section 2 of Form I-9?

When designated by the employer as its authorized representative, we can complete the employer's required document examination and Section 2 process according to the instructions provided by the employer.

Can you use my employer's online I-9 system?

Yes, when the employer provides access and instructions for its electronic I-9 or verification system. Please provide any links, login instructions, codes, or other information required for the appointment.

Does my employer need to authorize Call To Sign?

The employer is responsible for designating its authorized representative. If your employer has provided instructions for having a local representative complete your verification, send or bring those instructions so we can follow their required process.

Can I use photocopies or pictures of my documents?

Generally, the authorized representative must physically examine original documents presented by the employee. Photocopies, scans, or photographs generally cannot replace the required original document examination, subject to applicable Form I-9 rules.

Can you verify whether I'm eligible to work in the United States?

No. Call To Sign does not determine an employee's eligibility for employment or provide immigration or legal advice. We act as the employer's authorized representative to examine the documents presented and complete the verification steps requested by the employer.

What areas do you serve?

Call To Sign provides mobile I-9 verification throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, including Miami Lakes, Hialeah, Doral, Miami, Coral Gables, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, and surrounding communities.
